Legal and Ethical

Client Ethos and Reputation

Fruit bowl tech, an up and coming tech communications company whose operations lie in Milton  Keynes,  produce applications for mobile and desktop which cater to business clients and friends and family allowing them to communicate globally. The brand was initially targeted at the tech and business sectors, but they now want to connect with families and friends. With the use of targeted advertising the company are now looking to reach out to people who class themselves as explorers, mainstreamers and aspires in the 24-60 age category to promote their new app that enables families and friends to retrace their ancestors' footsteps and connect with long-lost relatives The brand's main messages include the importance of "staying in touch," "connecting to the past is as crucial as facing the future," and "family is as important as friends".

Copyright

The requirement of permission for all aspects of a production in a film is important. Sets, actors/extras, music, inventory films, art, posters, products/brands, books, broadcast programmes, drama, props/clothing and photographs are all necessary clearance. The required clearance includes. To avoid copyright or trademark issues, it is essential for clearances to be collected. In my production we do happen to use copyright material such as the opening of the Simpsons and the royal wedding kiss that was broadcasted by the BBC, so we need to obtain licences, so we are able to use said footage, a contingency plan has been put in place just in case that we are not able to get said licences. Our use of adobe stock will not cause any problems as we already have adobe software licences. We will ensure that non-branded clothing will be used in any shots to stray away from any unwanted problems

Defamation

Defamation is regarded as an unfair, written or spoken expression which is considered damaging to a person or business' reputation when published. If they think of the production we produce as harmfully reputable or express information that is untrue to it, then FruitBowl Tech is able to take legal action against us. To ensure that we do not release contents that may be detrimental to the brand, it is important to review a full scripting report in order to ensure that copyright, registration, publicity, privacy, location and any other related rights are not affected by the script problem.

Employer/Public Liability Insurance

Insurance is critical in the film industry; without it, a production could go bankrupt due to claims made by individuals harmed by the production. Insurance is also important because without it, we will be unable to obtain a permit to use our locations because the council will not allow it. We have obtained both Public and Employer insurance. Public insurance covers a member of the public who has filed a claim against the company for personal injury or property damage. The employer liability insurance will protect all cast and crew members who were injured during the production.

Equality act

I must consider the Equality Act of 2010, which states that we are not permitted to discriminate against an employee for any reason. Everyone who is a part of the production must be treated fairly. In order not, for instance, to cause any offence or make anyone feel uncomfortable in the production or in comparison to anyone who is involved in the production, women's performers should receive equal wages to men.

Health and Safety Documentation

Health and Safety at Work Act (HSWA) 1974 -

This Act places a legal duty on employers to ensure, so far as reasonably practicable, the health, safety, and welfare of employees, and to ensure that employees and others are kept safe. Not following said act will result in a lawsuit. This same act can be liked to the employment legalization referring to the laws which protect employees from unsafe work conditions. Failing to comply to these laws will not necessarily affect the flow of production, but it will affect the reputation of our production company meaning it is unlikely for a company to work with us in the future. Having to pay fines will just mean that unnecessary money is spent when laws can just be followed

Permission Documentation for locations

even though I've decided i have to chosen to shoot at Portishead Beach, it makes sense to send and notification email to both councils in the case of that one location becomes unavailable to shoot at. The locations are in proximity, so it, don't be too much of a hassle if one declines.

Location 1: Portishead Beach:

after looking at the website of Portishead council i acquired an email to send my request too,

response:

Dear Mr Howard Osei

Thank you for applying for a permit to us. We would be pleased to issue you a permit if you could show us proof of your public/employer liability insurance and risk assessments for the venue. We respectfully request that you and your cast and crew keep the area clean and make use of local facilities and resources whenever possible.

Kind Regards
Portishead Council.

Research Into The Development of Editing

Early Editing  In the present day, editing in film has various purposes: it aids in the telling of a storey, it creates a mood or atmosphere, and it contributes to the overall success of a film or video. Short films used to be one lengthy, static shot in the beginning. Early filmmakers were afraid of combining multiple shots of different items taken from different perspectives and locations because they feared it would confuse an audience. In the early 1900s, the first films with some type of editing were made. Edwin S. Porter's film "The Great Train Robbery," which he wrote, directed, and produced, is a significant milestone in editing technique. Griffiths, Eisenstein, and Kuleshov are among the most well-known film experimenters. D. W. Griffiths is regarded as the founder of narrative cinema; he pioneered techniques such as parallel editing, which allowed him to push his films to new heights of intricacy. Griffith's films were highly valued by Soviet directors such ...

Evaluation of Development of Practical Skills Across Course

I feel I have been able to gain a range of practical skills during this year, which will assist me when I work in a professional atmosphere. I have been able to provide evidence of communication with my clients, completion of health and safety protocols, setting up lighting and camera equipment to a client-acceptable standard, completion of promotional work to a client-acceptable standard, completion of all pre-production and idea generating work to a client-acceptable standard, and I have also justified my design methods across all platforms. Communicating with a client  When I complete units that include the completion of work for a customer, I took care of the unit as if I were in a professional setting. whether i was successful at this is up for debate as some things i did well and some things didn't do too well. for example, i was able to provide my client my clear vision and schedule of what I wanted to create whilst showing the procedures i will have to take to make things p...

Evaluation of Editing Development Across Course

Efficiency: If I'm being honest, my efficiency during the start of the course was very poor. i was not leaving enough time to complete tasks and what needed to be done was all over the place. This was a standard i did not find acceptable, to stop this from happening in future modules i would create Gantt charts to allow me to be on top of thing within my projects. However, with this in my mind i still believe i was quite poor when it came around the end i was i will end up be more efficient with my planning instead of editing which ultimately to more problems. This change drastically when it came  down to the music video module as this is the only module that i don't feel as if it was rushed./ other than this i only finished to modules on time. Organisation: My organisation was poor as i believe that if i was more organised i could have produced more work for my modules a better standard, my organisation of clips and footage was kept on a hard drive with different folders for d...
