Easy rider response
Within this scene, a variety of different techniques that range from editorial techniques to audio techniques is used to convey the emotion of boredom and portray the image of what substance potentially abuse feels like for the audience. The scene begins with a still eye-level shot with diegetic sound, which potentially could be some construction, of 4 adults who appear to be spending there day within a cemetery. From the moment this scene opens, the body language that these actors portray implies that they have reached a dead-end within their lives; I would go as far as to say that they appear to be going through some sort of existential crisis. What drives this point even further is the lack of movement from the camera and sound with the addition of the restlessness of the characters sitting down as if they are longing for something to happen within their lives. these two points alone allow the audience to quickly grasp an idea of what these characters are going through without the characters saying a single word. However, the way that these characters appear to be dressed allows us to Imply that they could be hippies that just spend their time doing nothing. This would not be too unexpected as this film did release within the 60s where hippies were most apparent. As this scene progresses, the editorial techniques become increasingly intense. The 4 adults indulge in the use of acid/LSD to past the time. In comparison to the characters being sober to tripping, the editing techniques show what is happening very clearly. As they indulge within acid, quick, fast-paced gradually come noticeable.
