Pull Focus

Pull focus is the camera technique where the focus changes whilst shooting. this technique is usually used to change the focus from one subject to another. this focus is good as it allows the director to guide the audience into focusing on what subject to another. this can technique can also create a disorientating effect when the focus changes within the shot. this effect achieved by beginning with a low aperture (approximately f/2. 8-4). the focus must be set on manual so you are able to use the ring on the lens. a main focus must be in the foreground. proceed to twist the ring changing the focus to something within the background. this shot can be used in multiple formats, for 1 it can be used to transition from a different scene, add drama to a shot or combine multiple shots at once.
within this example, in the movie 'Predator' you can clearly see that the focus is being changed to show the perspective of different characters within the film

Music Video Analysis - Kendrick Lamar - Alright

Analysis of song  Analysis of video Kendrick Lamar depicts the tale of the harsh reality that bear upon black people within many parts of America. To themes of black struggle and love and to what feels like a never ending with the police, these are the many themes that is used within alright video.  Introduction Within the beginning of the video, Lamar uses the establishing shot of the Oakland-Bay bridge as a framework for the subsequent visuals and messages — entirely in monochrome to contrast “black” and “white” — and messages; he also uses the establishing shot as a microcosm for American society as we explore the meaning of what it is to be black in America — contextualized by Lamar's narrative — and how he copes with his racial identity. For the next minute and a half, images of an apocalyptic Oakland are shown to the viewer in a way that suggests the end is near — a belief that Kendrick Lamar completely shares. Among these images is one of three people standing a...

Jacques Lacan Theory of Lack

Jacques Lacan theory of lack is concept that always relates to desire. lack being the thing that drives our desires.  L acan first designated a lack of  being : what is desired is being itself. "Desire is a relation to being to lack. The lack is the lack of being properly speaking. It is not the lack of this or that, but lack of being whereby the being exists" (Seminar:  The Ego in Freud's Theory and in the Technique of Psychoanalysis ). In "The Direction of the Treatment and the Principles of Its Power" ( Écrits ) Lacan argues that desire is the  metonymy  of the lack of being ( manque à être ): the  subject' s lack of being is at the heart of the analytic experience and the very field in which the  neurotic 's passion is deployed. In "Guiding Remarks for a Convention on Feminine Sexuality" Lacan contrasts the lack of being related to desire with the lack of having ( manque à avoir ) which he relates to  demand. an example of lack within a ...

Analysing Promotional Video - Meet iPhone 12

Analysing Promotional Video - Meet iPhone 12  Context within apple commercials, the main focus within them are to promote and sell their products to the audience and do this by showing their products in various aspects of life. In this iPhone 12 advert this is exactly what has been done here. As you cans see within the advert, the phone is being used in different day-to-day scenarios that are relatable to an audience. For example, to show the speed of the phone the footage of real life is slowed and the phone speed is normal to show in a hyperbolic way that the phone is faster than life. Such hyperbolic creative shots like this is what makes the advert memorable to an audience. This is something i want to incorporate into my work  as this is a very efficient way to market a product.  Sound Non-Diegetic:   An upbeat soundtrack can be heard to match the pacing of the video. This can also be in relation to the speed of the phone. a gust of wind can be heard when the pho...
